About us

Mayoreo del Istmo S.A. was founded in 2000 by Mr. Edgar Herrera in San José, Costa Rica, with the mission of efficiently supplying hardware stores throughout the Greater Metropolitan Area (GAM).

At the time, the country was facing an economic crisis that deeply impacted the hardware industry. Monopolistic practices were limiting competitiveness and putting local entrepreneurs at risk. In this context, Mayoreo del Istmo emerged as a solid and reliable alternative to meet the growing needs of the national market.

As demand quickly increased, we expanded our product portfolio and began importing key materials—starting with steel from El Salvador. This strategic decision brought excellent results and helped strengthen our business operations.

Driven by this early success, we further diversified our offerings to include wood, general hardware, melamine, PVC, and more. We also established commercial relationships with leading international markets such as the Dominican Republic, Chile, China, Brazil, the United States, and Guatemala.

Today, Mayoreo del Istmo S.A. supplies a broad range of essential products for the hardware and construction industry. Backed by decades of experience, we are proud to serve hundreds of clients nationwide who trust us as their reliable and strategic wholesale partner.
